Devlog #000 — Introducing Northforge Interactive

A new independent studio making thoughtful, systems-driven games. Here is who we are, what we believe, and what we are building first.

Northforge Interactive is a new independent game studio. This is the first journal entry, so it is the right place to say what we are and what we are for.

What we make

We make thoughtful, systems-driven games — where a small set of legible rules combine into surprising, replayable experiences. The richest moments in play are usually the ones nobody scripted; they fall out of systems colliding. We are here to build those systems and then get out of their way.

A few ideas shape everything:

  • Systems over spectacle. Depth should come from rules, not noise.
  • Clarity is craft. Readable screens, honest feedback, no hidden state.
  • Replayability by design. Built for the second hour, not the first five minutes.
  • Small, finished, sharp. Scope is a feature.

What we are building first

Our first game is PULSE//ZERO, a neon twin-stick arcade shooter where the arena is a character. Its reactive Living Grid folds, pulses and surges in time with a dynamic synth soundtrack — read it, and you can conduct a wave instead of just surviving it.

The vertical slice is playable, and it already proves the thing we set out to test: the grid carries the game. More on that in Devlog #001.

Building in the open

We will use this journal to work in the open — milestones, design notes, and the trade-offs behind them. No hype, just the workings.

If you want to follow along, this is the place. More channels to come.
